Grandma's Soft Sugar Cookies | Farm Journal's Best-Ever Recipes


Grandma's Soft Sugar Cookies ingredients
Makes 48
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon extract
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp ground nutmeg
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup buttermilk

For garnish:
Sugar
Raisins

Notes:

Directions
Preheat oven to 400ºF. Grease baking sheet(s) and set aside.

Beat together sugars, butter and shortening until fluffy. Beat in eggs, vanilla and lemon extract.

Sift together dry ingredients (flour through baking soda). Add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2.5-inches apart on the prepared baking sheet(s). Sprinkle with sugar and place a raisin in center of each cookie.

Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until done. Remove from baking sheets; cool on racks.
