Miree's English Toffee

Miree's English Toffee ingredients
Makes qty??
1 cup butter, no substitute
1 cup water
 3 Tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla extract
3-oz sweet chocolate bars (e.g. Hershey Bars), unwrapped
1 cup finely chopped nuts


In a 1-quart saucepan, heat the sugar, butter and water, stirring until the butter is melted.

Stir constantly until mixture bubbles up and turns amber; this will take about 8 to 10 minutes and the the mixture will be 320 on candy thermometer. Remove from heat.

Stir in vanilla and pour mixture in a thin layer onto a buttered pan.

Lay chocolate bars on top of the hot candy. As the bars melt, spread chocolate evenly over the toffee. Sprinkle the nuts over the chocolate.

When the toffee is cold, break candy into pieces and store in an airtight container.
